Hey everyone! I have a challenge for all of you if anyone is up to it. I don't know too much about coins; in fact I know next to nothing on how to tell worth. I just know the very basics of where to look for mint marks and things like that. A family member passed away and I inherited a pretty large coin collection. I have been looking through it and I'm not entirely sure if there is anything of GREAT worth but I am interested in selling what I have either way. From what I've looked through so far they are mostly US classic coins. I have sorted through: Morgans; Walking Liberties, Wheat Pennies, Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels of all conditions. There are also non classic coins but I'm not sure if anyone can help me with those in this area of the forum but I figure I'll go ahead and post for completions sake. They had pure silver quarters; new buffalo dimes, pure silver dimes, Sacagawea dollars (tons of these) and various other goodies like platinum State Quarters and uncirculated State Quarters that I need to go through. So my question here is; if I take a photo of a set of these things as I go along..would anyone be interested in helping me with value/rarity? It can be a huge group project; if you can't tell worth or a least selling price then perhaps let me know if they are real or not ha ha. The attached picture is one of two tubs full of coins. The second one contains only State Quarters.

I would suggest that the best plae to start is for you to buy a copy of The Red Book (Amazon, your local coin store, etc) and try to do some some initial work by yourself - checking for better dates/mintmarks, better conditions, damaged coins, etc. Then check back here with a few pics of the best pieces and we can go from there!

There'd book is a good idea, My first step would be to sort and organize all the coins. For us to help you, make a list. For example if you tell us how many Mercury dimes you have, We could tell you which ones to look for, that might have more value. With the right list most collectors could tell you the minimum your collection is worth. To put a value on the better coin, we would have to see good pictures.

Thanks for the feedback! @CoinHuntingDrew Haha that would be awesome! I do like looking through these coins. I used to have a collection of old non US coins when I was younger. I'll have to find those. I know they had a lot of non US coins as well I'll have to see if I can find those too! I actually do have a list of the Walking Liberty; Morgans and Peace dollars. Morgans 1889 1885 1921 s 1921 x10 1881 O 1889 x2 1884 1883 O 1891 O 1890 1921 x2 D 1897 Peace 1924 x5 1923 x9 1922 x9 1925 1922 D Walking Liberty very fine? 1942x4 1947 D 1941 D 1936 D fine ? 1944 x4 1942 x6 1943 D 1943 x8 1941 x5 1945 x3 1936 S x2 1946 D 1947 x6 1935 S 1939 x3 1939 S 1939 D 1945 D 1938 1946 1936 x4 1946 D x3 1942 D 1947 D 1934 S 1939 D 1944 1940 S 1941 D 1934 good/poor 1939 S x2 1941 1935 S x2 1947 D x2 1941 D 1941 x2 1935 D x2 1934 D 1939 1920 1919 S 1943 x2 1936 S 1938 x3 1918 S 1917 x3 1945 1918 1920 1935 D unknown x1 I added two images of the 1891 Morgan because supposedly it was uncirculated but I'm not sure if it's a fake or not.

Also I can get a better picture that is a bit more centered; crisp and up close if you all need it. Let me know; I just now noticed some of the edges are blurred.

Do NOT clean the coins as the coin will go down in value.

Noted! I don't even want to get my fingers on them but I sadly don't have any thin gloves to handle them with and not all of them are in cases; some are just in plastic baggies which..isn't the best for them I know.

Thank you! I'll definitely stick around. I have plenty of coins I've collected myself that I'd like to learn about and maybe...grab a few new ones if I get some extra spending money ha ha.
Childofthewheat; it's definitely been a fun time looking through all this stuff. I'll take a look through the wheat pennies soon and make a list of what I have!

Looking through the list you posted I don't see any rarities sadly. If you need some extra help you can PM me since I do this for other people who have needed help before. Or if you want me to PM you I can do that. Let me know. I have the time most days to help.

Looks like this is more of an acccumulation than a collection. Guess the silver is only worth bullion value, and much of the later stuff only face value.
If you want to sell, take it to a couple of local coin shops for offers.

Imthealphaomega; thanks so much for the offer I'll definitely take you up on that, I have a few other coins I'd like to get some information on though I don't think they are worth too much maybe a few dollars each but I'd like to know!
Coinfrog; yea that's very true they didn't really buy specific coins they just bought wholesale lots of coins randomly and LOTS of them wasting thousands of dollars, instead of saving up for a few nice coins here and there.
I'll at least be able do what you suggested and take them to a coin shop and see what they have to say.
