What? am I not an expert? I'm no where near an expert.

Here is why I think it is not a clash.
A clash will not appear on the incuse part of the dies,
There is nothing on the reverse that would make a mark like that on the shoulder,

I think it may just be Feeder Finger Damage, or the die was dropped. Possibly hubbed through debris?

During a die polishing. There may have been some damage to the incuse die areas or a die dent from another die. It is not common to see this. But anything can happen. First time I've seen this before.

I have dimes with clashing in the recessed area of Roosevelt's nose so your statement regarding clashes isn't correct Silver stacker but I agree that it's doubtfully a clash in this c ASE

Over polishing affects the fields first and then the shallow die devices.

Like this over polished example. Not note on the OP's coin this is not the case. It looks like something damaged the interior die parts, such as a dropped die on another die. Note how the edge of the bust and the central part is affected. The should is not as close, so it would have to been damaged at sometime during it's life.

It does not appear to be a die clash and I do agree that it is a form of die damge.
