Thanks, Moe. I was hoping somebody on this thread would appreciate the 1799 dollar as much (if not more than) the flashy Morgan.

Sorry for your loss. You do know about our stamp forum right? After seeing those coins you made me drool a little on my keyboard You may want to print out your post and keep it with those great coins. John1

I know I'm repeating what everyone else had said, but I'll say it anyway- I'm so sorry about your father, but I think these beautiful coins are a great way to honor someone who would have appreciated them so much. My grandfather passed away at the age of 70 3 years and 9 days ago. He was born during the war (1942) and grew up with his single mother in a poor part of Seattle. He never had a lot of money, but always spent a lot of time with me for the first dozen years of my life. Every Christmas he bought me a canvas bag full of LWC's to search through, and also gave me anything he found in change, which included an 1886 Seated dime (found in the 70's or 80's), a 1936 buff and a 1943-P 3/2 War Nickel. Looking back, I suspect he may have bought the overdate for me- that's the kind of thing he would have done. Now I think of him whenever I look at circulated War Nickels. Sorry to draw the topic away from your father, barryg. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. Both the coins are beautiful- of course the proof Morgan has outstanding eye appeal, but the draped bust is very impressive in its own way.

Incredible tribute to your Father Barry. Beautiful coins and without a doubt, a fitting tribute to a wonderful man I'm sure.

Outstandingly beautiful dollars, especially that 1799. Very sorry to hear of your loss. I am going through the same thing, my dad passed away in May from an unexpected heart attack while in the hospital for an "infection." I'm an only child & Mom passed away before Dad so it's just been me to handle the estate. I didn't buy anything quite that nice, although I bought quite a few coins, but I did put together this set to honor my father who was born in 1948. 1948 Mint Set - Dates & Mint Marks, PCGS #6 Finest Registry http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/pub...spx?s=135370Thank you for sharing your story with us, and hang in there. You've managed to buy two of my dream coins, and that's a real in and of itself. -- AB

I want to do 1949 for my mom but it's going to cost a lot more money, 1949 is a key date for both Roosies and Franklins. Thank you for the kind words,

Very nice coins! My dad passed away a little over a year ago. As executor, I liquidated his modern proofs and put the money in mom's savings.
I didn't buy any coins in his memory, but I did buy a car. I had to dispose of his horde of clunkers and buying a new car helped me get rid of the memory of rebuilt engines, bald tires, bad brakes, oil leaks, midnight breakdowns, etc.

I'm sorry for your loss, Paralyse. That's a very impressive set, though. I see what you mean about the 1949 set- a D mint Franklin could set you back many hundreds of dollars in a high grade.
