Yeah, I knew it was, blunt 9 and uneven bottoms. I more or less posted this to vent and validate lol! Thanks guys. Well....this will be my first time ever having to return an ebay item. The guy said send it back and he will refund it. I am concerned though, because in theory couldn't he just get the coin back, and neglect to refund the money?....apologies if that is so off topic its against the forum rules.

Send it back insured that he has to sign for. That way you know he received it.

Yes defiantly a large date. I've seen a plethora of large dates marked as small dates being sold on ebay. You have to know the series pretty good to buy raw coins

ebay will make sure you get your money back. Follow the procedure they outline for returns. Open a return case, and follow through. You have the opportunity to choose the reason for the return, if you feel this seller was attempting to fool the buyer, you have the option to state that, otherwise just a straight forward return will have the desired result. Most ebay sellers, including myself, are not wanting to rip anyone off, we don't want the negative feedback, we want our customers to be happy with their purchases and come back to purchase again. Too bad this coin was not as advertised, hope you eventually find one! :)

If you send it back with delivery confirmation, ebay will consider that as returned and will give you your money back if the seller drags their feet. I agree with Rose5 though - most sellers will follow the rules and refund quickly to avoid negs.

Most of the 1970-S small date cents on ebay are actually large dates. Learn how to tell the difference and if the seller doesn't want to provide decent photos, don't buy it. Way too much of this going on with ebay

After I read this post, I went looking through ebay's completed listings to see what these small date '70-S's are going for these days as I have quite a few I could sell and I noticed this 2 coin lot with a large and small date 1970-S that has got to be the same lot you purchased. I say that because the large date cent appears to be a dead ringer for this one you've posted. The other one is in much better shape and appears to be the small date cent. But due to poor quality of the images it's hard to say with 100% certainty. So if this was indeed the lot you purchased, I believe the other cent is the small date. If the other cent isn't a small date either or if this was the wrong listing all together, *** Edited by Staff - Please review the rules that you agreed to when you registered. ***.

The coin posted by the OP is definitely a large date. JDRMCB makes an interesting point about the closed ebay listing ... was that the lot purchased? David

Yes that was the correct listing and the other coin is a very obvious large date.

Since the seller sold you something that obviously was not as described, ask them to pay the shipping BOTH ways. Why should you have to pay for his mistake?
