How would you store/display your coins?
Over the past few years, since I resumed actively collecting, I have continued to use "Harco-like" Guardmaster or Coinmaster albums. I've used them for over 20 years and have not had any issues with PVC damage, or other discoloring.
I like them few a few reasons; the 10" x 9" format is nice to work with, the pages provide a good view of the coins, including the edges, and most importantly, the labeling system is easy to customize.
Lately however, I have started to think that I would like to upgraded my albums to something that will pass the test of time. (Despite my good experience with them, I still have some reservations about the Guardmasters.)
I've looked at Air-Tites. They look good and the album would allow me to determine what constitutes a complete set. (I really don't like albums with holes for coins I do not consider to be part of a "set". For example a 3-Legged 37D Buff. As cool as it is it's an error coin and in my mind not really part of the "set".) But Air Tites do not appear to have any way to label the coins and that is a problem.
I've also looked at Eagle 2x2s. The albums look pretty good and they appear to allow for custom labeling. The problem is I don't know enough about them to make a commitment.
I would appreciate any advice you guys could give.
Thanks!

build a.... HUMUNGOUS display case, with a computer that is programmed to grab a specific coin, in a specific place, in a specific holder out of a tray in the display case, and bring it to me. I could then admire it, put it in the computer grabby thingy and it goes back to its place.

Sounds great but a bit out of my budget.

I have mostly dansco albums and all my collection is US coins but I do have a couple of air tite albums I bought earlier this year. I seem to remember you can order an air tite album and have them custom print what you want on the pages. Would that help?

How do you like the Air Tites? Are they good for long term storage?

I personally like the air tite albums I have; but I have not researched the black (or white) spacer used to see the effects of really long term storage. I only have 2 air tite albums filled. The other one I haven't started filling yet because it is an 1800 - 1900 type set and wanted to check out what the spacer is made of to make sure I am not going to have a problem with the coins down the road since those coins will be more expensive / valuable.

Always a problem when some of your coins are slabbed, and most of them are not.

I would probably stick with my Dansco albums. The only reason I would consider a new system when starting over is if I also changed my collecting habits, shifting from circulated coins to higher grades. Then I would consider using capsules.

IF I had to start over I'd simply not. I'd use the money to buy a Ferrari. Maybe two of them.

My car is a classic, but it is a cheapie. Probably valued at around AUD $10,000, but the best ones in Europe can auction for more that 30,000 Euros.
Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9, (with the 6.9 litre engine). Scarce; they made 7300 of them from 1972 until 1980, the first car in the World with ABS brakes and suited to unleaded gasolene. No springs or shocks, hydraulic suspension, overhead camshafts, fuel injection. Not bad for a 40 year old car.
(Low flying loungeroom, a natural competitor to the Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, Series 11) Scarce; they made 7300 of them from 1972 until 1980.
The number plate on the car is also my forum name.

I have started over. A couple of years ago, I completely re housed my collection in PVC free archival quality album pages, about 2,000 coins.

Quote: IF I had to start over I'd simply not. I'd use the money to buy a Ferrari. Maybe two of them. I'd save the money for food, personally. I spent a lot more than I should have back during the 2011 silver price peak (because that was when I had the most money, and I had no idea that the prices would go back down), and now (for unrelated reasons) my family might be facing a money shortage in a few months (it's hardly certain yet, and at this point it's probably more likely not to happen, but it's a distinct possibility). But ignoring that - and ignoring the fact that, as measured in our currency, the prices went back up to 2011 levels for silver, and are much higher than in 2011 for cheaper coins - I'd probably not use any albums at all, and buy another few packs of large IKEA ziploc bags instead (where I would then store the small ziplocs with coins). And if, in this hypothetical scenario, I'm not losing that wooden chest my father got me for my collection a few years ago, I'll probably put the big ziplocs there. Test of time? What test of time? If I get a broken ziploc, I'll put the coin in another; and since, you know, polyethylene is kind of extremely stable, the only things I might have to worry about is the ziplocs developing holes in them (to be fair, I don't actually know how long the IKEA baggies are rated for - for all I know they get a lot more brittle within ten years).

Start over? You must be joking I'm still updating the references on mine from the ' Y ' numbers to the 'KM' numbers. Thought about it ONCE and decided I needed a new truck instead of MANY new holders. Besides I've decided to computerize my collection and that's going to be a huge task; next task is to find some software that doesn't require a secretary. LOL

I've gone from Danscos to flips to slabs, now putting everything, regardless of value, into the Coin World Premier Holders. Got tired of the glare from the flips, and the cheap look of them, coins in different locations depending on media, and empty spaces in albums, so now it's all the same system.

I wouldn't use PVC album pages, that's for sure!

I'd have purchased a lot more Morgans when they were cheaper.
