Just made a bit of an impulse buy and trying to figure out if it is a bit of an over grade by PCGS. These are the best resolution I have for now. Will post grade after a few responses

Looks like a poorly struck EF40/45 to me. PCGS may have called that AU.

PCGS must have graded it at least an ef45.

If that's the one from today's auction, I think you likely did okay. Hard to tell without it in hand, but 40 is likely okay.

To me it looks like it's a VF at best.... but could be a weak strike hard to tell from those photos.

Yes, from today's auction. I was thinking closer to a 30, but looking at some of the other graded examples I think 40 might be pretty close, maybe a bit high. A weak strike would explain a lot, looking forward to seeing it in hand. For $150 all in, I think I will be happy.

George V nickels were struck weaker than other series so this looks EF to me

Weakly struck EF...

No better than VF30, doesn't look weakly struck on my screen.

Kind of hard to tell with the reverse pic, but there's still a lot of detail to those leaves. I'd wager lower EF.

Once luster is gone, weakly struck become a moot point as fully struck examples exist. This coin is NOT EF.

VF 30 at best going by these pictures which are not the greatest. To get EF it would have to look a lot better in hand.
Cheers, Bill

Quote: Once luster is gone, weakly struck become a moot point as fully struck examples exist. This coin is NOT EF. I have lots of mint state nickel dollars with that smokey haze on them that gives them the appearance of having no lustre. Those open fields don't show VF wear Mike... and the reverse leaves speak volumes to me. Unfortunately, we cannot see the rims... I still think it is a weakly struck EF...
