You talked down a pawn shop from $26 to $15? Can you write a book on negotiating?

It isn't hard, I offered what I was willing to pay for it. If you go in with an attitude that you are willing to pay only a certain amount. it knocks out the haggling. Also, I am very respectful and don't act like I am an expert (I am not). This was the same place I bought a 1/4oz 24k Canadian piece this summer, at spot.. which was 100 less then they were asking.
Also, I taught them the 'tissue' test. Which seemed to impress the manager. She didn't know about it. I also left my name and number in case they get any more coins.

Quote: You talked down a pawn shop from $26 to $15? And R from a tv show which you all should know would be like "Best I can do is $5" "That's top of the mark, R" says his father, "But look, it's a Silver Dollar, I mean they go much more than what you are offering" says the seller, "Yeah, but it's gonna sit on the shelf for a while, and I have to pay the staff as well as leave some negotiating room to sell it, but if you want I can call in my buddy, he's an expert in coins" responds R, "sure" responds the customer". *somwhere betwwen half and a whole hour pass in realtime, although only 10 minutes on the tv* "Hey x I've got a customer with a silver $1 dollar coin, I'm giving him $5, but he says that it's much more than that" says Rick to his expert x. "Looks like a common date and it would have received a poor grade by the way it looks, wouldn't give for that more than $10" says x the expert. "Yeah, thanks buddy" says R. "Ok, so if we can do $20 I can part ways with the coin, although it has a meaning to me" says the customer, "Yeah, but sentimental value isn't what we're putting a price on, best I can do is like I said $5" responds R. "I don't know about that, how about $15?" the customer counteroffers, "$7 and we can make a deal" says Rick, "and that's the best price you're going to get all time long and only here" adds R. "Ok, $7 will do, but I was counting on much more" says the customer, "People come in here all the time thinking they've got something valuable, but it turns out not so" says R. "Come on buddy, my coworker will write you up and you can be on your way" adds R. Something that came into my head when I saw pawnshop and negotiations :D . OP, great buy :).

If you pay attention to the people in the back ground, you can see the same people in pretty much the same place when the seller first shows up as when the buddy that he had to call walks in.

Steele, that's a good catch, I never noticed that. We all know that the show is set up, but I never realized that it is set up so upfront, I mean how realistic is it if his buddies are so quick in coming over, it sounds almost as if they had nothing to do and were waiting around the corner for him to call them. I wish there was a true show that would really involve real situations, or a least would teach people about antiques, everything is so fake on tv now that it's hard to watch after 5 minutes. I honestly do not understand how people can enjoy being somewhat cheated on by the producers of these shows, although I'm assuming (and you know what happens if you do that) they realize that it's not real, they still watch it. I am not talking about movies or series shows because they are meant to be entertaining, whereas those so called reality shows are so fake and so bad that it's hard to choose them over anything, not to mention 30 minutes of ads in a 20 minute episode. When I watch something that is not a movie or a series, but a program based on real/historic items I expect to take something valuable out of it, otherwise it's a waste of time. Just my
