The so-called "closed 3" or "close 3" variety, AG-03.

This was replaced by the "open 3" variety because the number looked too much like an 8.

AG-3 and I agree with close 3 which is much rarer than the open 3. Also the close 3 variety is notorious for very uneven strikes due to Grease Filled Dies and debris strike throughs. This variety is very difficult to find in gem condition.

Is this one of the doubled Liberty varieties?

If so, I'm guessing S-1b. If not, then I look forward to your schooling me on IHC varieties.

Good eye, Raymo. I totally missed this one. I know that this is one of the top varieties for the IHC series, but given that all the doubling is worn off this coin, I would not think that it would carry much (if any) of a premium. Any thoughts?

I doubt it has any premium but I only paid $4.50 for it. I just bid on it as a neat coin.
