I just got in 3 coins on approval from a seller I have never dealt with, this is the first one. My picture doesn't quite show it, but there some detail on the tips of the feathers. Any & all opinions would be helpful.

I'm concerned about this, looks like verdigris to me. What do ya'll think?

I'm going to go EF-40 on the IHC. The detail in Liberty and ribbon I think would be consistent with that grade. On the reverse, the shield seems worn in the center, vertical elements.

Coin has character...but if you must attempt to clean it up...use extra virgin olive oil...drop it in for a couple of weeks...dirt and vertigris(green stuff) will loosen and drop off...leave in EVO for months for desired result!

PS Agree with Hunter EF-40

Nice XF. Some acetone should take off that stuff on the reverse.

My opinion is that unless it's super cheap, send it back. It looks like the mouth is damaged and the rim nicks and potential problems you'll be inheriting from the 'inclusions' will one day make you look at it and think "Why did I buy that?" On the flip side, the slightly off-center strike on the reverse is kind of cool, and it's got a nice overall feel, but like I said I wouldn't pay full-grade price for it. (But that's just me and I seem to be in the minority).

Good catch HABIB, that hit at the mouth ought to be a deal-breaker. Otherwise the coin looks pretty good and surfaces look original. The verdigris seems very minor and the rim hits aren't too bad. Overall I agree with the XF or even an XF-45 grade. If it weren't for that hit I'd call it nice.

Decent XF40 if not for the obverse damage. Problem free IHC's are getting harder to find. Maybe worth retail $ - 50% ?

I ended up sending this one back. I really liked the detail, but couldn't live with the hit at the mouth or the possible verdigris on the reverse. The "rim hits" were not on the coin; they were either cardboard scraps inside the 2x2, or created by a combination of light, cellophane & photo.
