My uncle stopped over today and handed me this LMC, and wanted to know what he had found. I've looked at it and at first thought it was a vise job, but there seems to be no other indications of that. I then thought it could be the strongest die clash I've ever seen. If it was a die clash though Lincolns head should be flipped 180 on the reverse. I'm kind of stumped on this one. Hopefully someone can explain this one (coop).

It was pressed into two other cents. That's why the extra memorial and lincoln are incuse and backwards. Even a VERY strong clash could not create this. The incuse parts of the head and shoulder could not clash with the incuse parts on the oposite die. The details would not touch each other to clash. Pretty much the best explanation I can give.

Coop and others will most likely give the same explanation.

It weighs 3.05g and it's diameter is dead on at 19.05mm. This is why I can't see it being a vise job as that usually changes the diameter to some degree.

Yes, this is a vise job. I agree with SSK- it was pressed between two coins, and that's why there are no markings from the vice.

Wow, that does look amazing though. I am new to this and I probably would have been jumping up and down thinking it was worth lots of $$$.

Through this forum I have learned about so many ways that people damage coins - it has never even crossed my mind to intensionally damage money of any kind.

Any of us here could write a book on 101 ways to damage a coin. But it would take up a million and one pages when we're done.

Agree with squeezed or a swift strike of a hammer on top three coins can make the transfer happen. Thanks, Doug.

If it were a clash it would be showing the correct die rotation for the correct setup of the press. I see no evidence of this. Vise job.

Also there would be no contact marks on the rims.
