Wow!,

I really love this forum. The knowledge and camaraderie are unparalleled.

Is this old cent worth anything?

Stick it to a magnet. If it sicks, it's about 50 cents. If it doesn't, GET IT GRADED.

I bought this coin at the 2000 FUN show with bag of other miscellaneous 1940s coins for $200. It made news in March 2000 Coin World. I am not trying to sell it.
I just like this forum so I will show off a neat coin here once in a while. I will be 70 in 25 days. Wife wants to get a huge MH and hit the road. I hope her chauffeur keeps her better company than me and this mag visor!

Well just note that if it is real, its worth from $35,000 to hundreds of thousands. The 1943 copper is one of the most sought after coins.

Greetings -

According to the coinfacts.com website, there are approximately 10-12 known examples of 1943 Cents on Bronze Planchets. There are also quite a number of counterfeits - steel cents later bronze coated.

As another poster said, if this is the real deal, it is extremely valuable.

Best regards,
Ken

Has it been examined by any experts as to its authenticity?

Gene, it looks to be a counterfeit to me. I can't put my finger on why. I think it might be the ultra-sharp, rigid details. Steel cents seem to sharper, probably from being stamped out of harder material.

Of course I'm not expert so I could be wrong. If it's real and in THAT condition? It's worth five, maybe even six digits.
