Jbuck - indeed you're correct. The V is barely noticeable. In fact I was surprised I could read the date. Unbelievably it was one of the few spots not to have been worn away.

Imagine how many times over the years Rackster's V nickel could have been lost but wasn't...remarkable! This is one of the reasons coins fascinate me...Other reasons are thoughts of how many hands this coin has passed through, and what merchandise it was used to purchase...If only coins could talk! |

Indeed. As worn as it is, you wonder if folks stopped along the way to notice if it had a date. By looking at the reverse alone, you would have thought someone handed you a slug. Can you see the V....  Me neither. You have to hold it on a steep angle with light to see a trace. |

I have not been posting box by box up dates this month. Here is what I've found: 1950p (2) 1942d 1943P (2) 1944P 1945P And last night: 1938s  Only our third ever! |

Got me wondering Jack...what is the likelihood that we coin roll searchers will find a Magician's coin. Seems we see one posted here somewhat regularly. |

Box #11: Buffalo: 1934 full date! - Finally a Buffalo with a date I can read! Pre-1960'S: 20 War: 4, 2x 1942-P, 1943-S, 1945-S (hole filler) 2009: 0 Still Missing 9: 38S, 39D, 39S, 43D, 44D, 44S, 45D, 50D, 51S Overall a great box. Low on the pre-1960's, so I was very surprised to see a buffalo and 4 War Nickels, which is a record for me. You never know what you're going to get! |

Jon - missed your third 1938S; congrats on that!! I'd love to find some low mintage Jeff's! smeyers - nice run on the silver especially those S mints!! I'd love to find those for my 2015 project! OK, as Jbuck noted, my V nickel wasn't much of a pocket piece. So I decided to pickle the nickel to lift the date and then tossed it in my pocket. I had some fun showing folks at work what can sometimes pass through their fingers. I thought it was neat that everyone I handed it to did the math on determining the time spent in circulation. More than one exclaimed, "If only the coin could talk! What story would it tell?"   |

Nice on the 1959D. Look for DDR in EPU and USA. Much easier to detect on high grade specimens. Good luck! |
