I'm hoping things will pick up over the next few weeks. The last two events were lack luster for the most part, but not without some redemption. Here are a couple of the fun finds from the last box -

Thanks jbuck. As you know it's very hard to find nice specimens for 1982 and 1983 in circulation. And even though this specimen doesn't have 3 clean steps, it is in overall great condition. This is probably the best specimen in the past 6-12 months. And my favorite find in the box.

It is probably one of the finest 1983 nickels I have ever seen. I certainly find it every bit as exciting as the silver.

Just went to the bank and got 20 rolls of nickels for the first time in about a year. Here are my results 11 pre 1960 1954-s 1958-d 1940-s 1956-d 1948 1944-p (silver!) 1946 1957-d 1941 1952-d 1959-d From the pre 60's I got 6 hole fillers for my future kids folder
I also found 1 2009-d
Overall a pretty good day of searching can't go wrong with free silver.

Searched 40 rolls tonight Results Pre-1960's = 29 (including a 1951-S) War Nickels = 1 1945-P 2009's = 2 Overall another great night a searching, found some nice low mintage dates along with some silver. Can't complain about that. The sad thing is its time to go back to college tomorrow, I'll have to try to find a bank that I can get rolls from. Happy Hunting everyone!

One thing I'm wondering is, how often do Buffalo nickels show up in customer wrapped rolls? I was wondering because unlike War Nickels and older Jeffersons, they are easily noticed, similar to how silver quarters are also pulled from circulation. I've been taking your advice for coin roll hunting lately and focusing on customer wrapped nickels and dimes due to the possibility of silver, but I was wondering about the likelihood of finding a buffalo in a CWR

I found one a month or so ago in 10 CWRs I got. It happens, but I've had better luck getting them out of boxes I get.

I've searched close to if not more than around $800 worth and I've only found one buffalo head to this day. I think it's all just a matter of luck

Very nice 1983-P Rackster. Hard to come by like that from today's roll hunting. Quote:One thing I'm wondering is, how often do Buffalo nickels show up in customer wrapped rolls? I can help a little bit with that ... being mindful that my nickel searches over the years have been a combination of customer wrapped rolls and machine wrapped. I've found 61 total Buffalo nickels out of 339,200 nickels searched ... so on average I find them once every 139 rolls searched. David

Thanks Dave! And I agree with your 139 roll figure. I suspect I find a buffalo every 3rd box. Most of the time with a date, but many do not.
