Quote: Hence, I completed a Jefferson set(1938-2008) totally from circulation. Wow ...... what an accomplishment ..... Congratulations to you Yinzi50! I offer two thumbs up and a tip of the cap ... The purists will note that you have completed a Circulation-Strike (less proofs) collection ...... but geepers ..... to do so in 1 month is an amazing feat. You know I am pursuing the same quest ...... and have looked through 3640 rolls to date ..... I still need 3 coins ...... so your roll-searching luck at 2700 rolls says I need to move to your State. Also amazing ..... your ability to actually look at that many coins in such a short period of time ..... truly .... my neck starts to hurt after being hunched over nickels after 20 or so rolls ..... how you managed an average of over 90 rolls per day is a feat all it's own. I did a quick comparison on actual find rates based on your final post numbers ..... again you seem to be ahead of the statistical pack ..... for example .... Quote: 1 bufflao, dateless;(17 total)
You are reporting Buffalo's at a rate of 1 every 6363 coins ..... I find them at a rate of 1 every 7663 coins. Quote: 1 wartimer, 43S;(45 total, 54 boxes searched, less than 1 per box)
You are reporting War Silver at a rate of 1 every 2400 coins ..... I find them at a rate of 1 every 3309 coins. You have beaten the odds Yinzi50 ..... Congratulations again on your milestone. David

you did have a great day ratman! War Nickels are tops in my book - and an early buffalo! Yinzi, good job pressing on - the jeffs are the only coin set one can complete from circ that contains pre ww2 coins. It's also a reminder to ushow nice it is to roll search.

Thanks youngfee101, GFR3, jbuck, hrhomer, Dave, mdh157.
Dave, I like your way to statistical analysis; I must confess that I did not get all the nickels from my own state. Whenever I am on the road (2h drive) I would get some coins in the next city which is located in neighboring state. A tip to speed up the process, get coins if you are on the road especially if you visit a city with a national tourist attraction. Tourists carry coins in their pockets or in their car's console.
mdh157, you are exactly right about Jeffs being the only set can be obtained from ciculation. That is the traditional and cheap way to complete a set. Nickel searching is a tremendous fun activity. The buffs, wartimers, proofes, keys and semi-keys, and a hope of finishing the set!

Yinzi: Congrats on the great accomplishment. It takes many people a couple of years + of hard searching to accomplish what you have!

Yinzi50, Sacagawea dollars, Presidential dollars, Franklin halves, and Kennedy's are also possible to complete from circulation. I myself completed Franklins from circulation, and I am only missing the 1970d for the kennedy's. Its even feasible to complete kennedy proofs from circulation. -XoG
