Just out of curiosity, have people started keeping nickels from the 60's? Personally, I've been keeping everything before 1960.

I throw everything I find pre 1960, into a cookie tin. Guess it will give the kids something to spend, when they find them.

That is a gorgeous War Nickel60s nickels aren't really worth keeping unless they're really, really nice or they have FS (which is almost impossible to get on 60s nickels - PCGS has never graded a single 1960-D, 1967, or 1969-S nickel with FS)

I brought this up in the 2023 thread, but wanted to mention it here as well... I had this dream last night that I paid cash for something and received $4 in change... as two nickel rolls. The first one I opened was solid 2023-P, the other was solid 1982-D... all BU... I am not sure why 1982, it was just a dream after all, but being uncirculated and Denver mint was most impressive to me. I have to wonder if my subconscious wants me to to out and get some nickel rolls.

jbuck, no mint sets in 1982 or 1983 so BUs w FS are rare! I can not believe how good my own luck has been lately. Despite 5 holes left to fill (44D, 45D, 48S, 49S and of course the 50D), I have scored THREE dated Buffalos and that V nickel in the "antique" thread since Saturday, May 20th. My 4 year old pulled out one of those Buffs and the V. Cheap thrills and my bank doesn't seem to mind yet. Being in the Charleston, SC area I actually can't believe we found a 51S in the last few weeks as well, but have noticed War Nickels becoming quite scarce, and 2009s even more so. To date we have plucked only one 2009 P and one 2009 D from circulation, but 5 buffalos.

I just sifted through 15 rolls of quarters and was getting started on the 10 rolls of nickels . I opened the first roll and out came all brand new 2022 P . I through them all into a formed wrapper ( N.F. String , I re - roll and crimp as part of my routine ). At that point I knew what I would find when I went and looked at the ends of the other 9 rolls , lol. All 2022 P ( smh ).

Finished searching through a Loomis box today. It was a little underwhelming with 7 from the 40's and 11 from the 50's, but no 2009's, Buffalos, War Nickels, or album fillers. The best one was a 1938-S, which is a key date, and only the second one I ever found. Will try to get another box tomorrow and try again. Coincidentally, I also found a 1938-S Wheat cent from a Loomis roll today. Cheers!

Decent results. Could have been worse. I like the 1938-S pair!

I keep everything from the 1960s except 1960-D, 1961-D, 1962-D, 1963-D, 1964, and 1964-D... actually, I keep the 1970-S and 1971 Ps as well... there's a bit of a market for these coins now thanks to the growing popularity of the "book 2" Jeffersons (1962-1995/6) - part of the reason I haven't been on here much recently is my ebay sales have gone nuts this month, especially amongst nickels, including all of the above dates I save. The 1971-P is impossible for me to keep in stock, even at $9+ a roll of problem-free circs... it's the hardest post-1964 nickel to for me to find other than the 2009 coins. Quote:

I always say "quality over quantity"... it's ALWAYS a win when you find one of the five key date Jeffersons. Congrats!

Well, today I got the stink eye from the Wells Fargo teller lady. "We only provide large amounts of rolled coins to business customers." She reluctantly sold me $20 of customer rolled nickels, but it seems that the party's over at my local WF. The rolls contained barely anything of interest, hardly anything pre-1970. As if it had all been picked through already, which has not been my experience there.

I've better experiences with that bank than any other overall... next time you go there, make sure you go to a different teller - even let someone else in front of you if necessary. I've run into the occasional one of those kind, but they're VERY few and far between in my experiences with said bank.

It's a little odd that a teller could effectively invent bank policy without management consultation.
