Maybe I should get back into roll hunting... starting with pennies as they're cheap and fun to look through.

When you go to the bank and ask for say$30 worth of nickels do you look to see if there circulated before taking them?

The most I get at a time anymore, is 10 bucks worth. Take what ever the teller gives me. If they are new solid date rolls, I turn them in at another bank. Really doesn't matter if they a machine wrapped or customer wrapped, as I have found War Nickels and buffaloes in both and a Liberty nickel in a customer wrapped one.

Agree with Nycstirr (above) when it comes to: 1) taking whatever a teller provides {maintains positive relationships), and 2) machine wrapped and customer wrapped rolls are equal opportunity hunting sources (for the most part).

solid recent date rolls are my favorite since they are the best place to find high grade examples, die clashes, etc.

Got 5 Loomis rolls from another local branch today, and lo and behold, out popped a War Nickel! I didn't notice it at first, because it wasn't dark/green like most of them are, at least in circulation. It was actually in pretty good condition, probably XF/AU details, but it's pretty obvious that it's been cleaned, unfortunately. But, the most exciting thing is that it was NOT a 1943! Instead, it was a 1944-D, so that's an album filler, and broke my 1943 spell. Just 13 holes left to fill now. Cheers!
