You are right about the hit. I found a 51-D on the Cuds on coins website with a BIE (#LDB4-1951-015) that has the same die marker/chip on the "9". The "5" is fine on that one. Thanks for your reply.

I think that circulation wear has obliterated the evidence of the hit and left just the damage.

Is that a big crack running through Lincoln's head?
