Here are few recent pics of a 1925 nickel.. Many different lighting views that change the surface view. That's why it's always best to view "in hand" and then play the coin in the light to fully appreciate it.. Die polishing is very evident across this coin.. Mikey's keen eyes saw things that were not in good order on this 25....and would have affected the final grade. There had to be at least 30 minute dots of "green something" on this coin. At the rim, and all over the tight devices and letters... The top 3 pics still show a few green dots that I went back and later removed on the 2nd try.. After the acetone bath most of the green specks looked almost translucent to me....= very strange one here.. In the acetone bath for a bit,..quick air dry and a very fine okiecoiner "applique".. and then a soft and very narrow paint brush/blow brush touch-up. ...and all the green fell away.. What it was..?,.. I do not know,..but it brushed away very easily.. A quick rinse in alcohol to kill anything else on the coins surface and back into the slip...for future grading.. Thanks again Mikey..! ..Your eyes were great on this one.. Any added views appreciated.. . . Edited by DEVLEC 01/09/2016 4:13 pm

Nickels used to be my passion...until error coins came along and stole my heart. But now.....

As dollarman has stated... I haven't seen Mikey in person in quite a while. Hopefully at Coin Expo or the RCNA convention..

You are welcome Derek. Bill, miss our chats. My daughters were talking yesterday about how you and Denise gave the 22 far 5 cents (UNC) a coke bath at Expo! Good times.

Mikey .. my fingers never got close to that coin, but my shoulders are big enough to take some of the blame. Yes, I, too, miss our chats and walks from the hotel to the library.

HAS THE BAR BEEN SET? Amazing coin ! I now have a comparison to help me in my own quest for the elusive AU or better 1925 nickel. In the link Dollarman posted the scratches BEHIND? the D and A of Canada, occurred pre-stamp or ? ... Never seen that before. Thoughts?
