Hammond shop owner, would-be robbers exchange gunfire
http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/...7bc8ce1.html

Wow. Glad that the owner wasn't hurt and no merchandise was taken. Given the reputation that Hammond and the surrounding areas have I'm surprised that there is a coin shop there.

Definitely glad no one was hurt. Also definitely glad we live where we have the right to protect ourselves.
I hope the perps are still shaking from the encounter and are caught soon.

I have never been to a coin shop and not seen a gun behind the counter.

About the only small shop type I see having a more heavily armed staff would be a gun store.

Hopefully next time the store owner practices good gun control and hits all his targets.

I'd say thank God, but thank the founding fathers for the 2nd Amendment. This coin dealer would be at least robbed if not dead but for his right to defend himself.

one of my favorite coin shops is also a gun shop

On a serious note, I am glad that the owner was not hurt and that nothing was stolen.

Been to Hammond a few times but only to visit the Cabelas store they have there... Have no desire to see the rest of the city due to its high crime...

Hats off to the owner who not only foiled the robbery attempt, but also isn't scared to do business in a not so ideal location.

For anyone is isn't familiar with Indiana; Hammond is right between East Chicago and Gary, Indiana. I'm sure you've heard of those 2 places.

Definitely a dangerous area. It's one of those areas where you're driving down the highway and you have to go to the bathroom, you hold it for 20 more miles.

Glad the shop owner was prepared.

To the gun control activists: did the guns rob the shop, or did the dim-witted idiots that probably illegally obtained the guns rob the shop?

This is the rare thread in this forum that has made me smile. Good for the good guys. Usually it's some innocent coin shop owner getting a bullet, glad it was different this time. I hope some bad guys are leaking.

My hometown!

Right across from an elementary school.

By the way, my first two Dansco albums were bought just over thirty-one years ago in Hammond.

Holy 2nd ammendment. Thank god for the right to bare arms! I was just in a local lcs yesterday, I help him with vams and varities when he gets large collections in, and the owner was cleaning his colt 1911. I told him a he should also get a tactical shotgun and hang it in full display close to his desk to use if needed but also as a sign that says don't mess with me, which he agreed. Don't know if I wanna show him that article though

Guns and insurance are a must in today's coin & pm world!
