Vancouver homicide suspect photos released, police ask for help http://www.kgw.com/story/news/2015/...er/76384958/Is it just me or does anyone else think that these types of news stories are becoming more common place. Thieves must view coin shops as softer targets, which unfortunately they may be. Nobody would blame coin shop dealers if they needed to increase security. In this line of work they really need to be carrying and be an excellent shot.

That's just sad.
The coin shop in my neighborhood seems to have a lot of security but I don't suppose there's ever enough. It's just sad.

That's horrific and terribly sad. My LCS/LBD has a shotgun propped up by the counter near the cash register, and all employees are packing. Doesn't bother me one bit; in fact it makes me feel safer.

Truly sad. At my LCS, they all wear Glocks. When one is helping a customer, the others are weapon ready. This is just what it's become. You have a right to defend life and property.
Those photos are decent. She's done.

I've been in quite a coin shops when there was only one employee on duty. Frankly I don't think that this is very smart.

Nor I, but sometimes you just can't have two on duty...economics of the business.
I would advertise heavily that employees are armed and trained to use deadly force, have cameras visible everywhere and a 9-1-1 hot-button.
Though I'm sure even with the most persuasive deterrent, someone desperate enough or high enough will not care and try anyway.

It's always sad to hear of a loss like this. I'm surprised there wasn't any surveillance video.

I went to high school in Vancouver. This is just crazy sad. I remember being at my first job in downtown Vancouver on April 20th 1999 and hearing about Columbine for the first time. I know the two have relativly little to do with one another but it's like full circle for me.

Good riddance. Karma has a way of working wonders sometimes. One less piece of trash in the world.

Start doing like the big high-end shops, and have an entrapment area where you need to be buzzed out?

Good news, in my opinion. The Brookes family has been spared living through the murderer's trial and the tax payers have been spared the expense of the trial.
Nothing will ever make up for what's been done but at least it is over -- mostly.
