If you think it was under-graded you can take it out of the slab and send it to PCGS to try your luck and hopefully get a better grade.

The big scuff under liberty's chin is what primairly limited it to 64 imo

That's a nice looking 1880-S and $80-$85 is retail for generic 64 Morgans. It looks like an honest 64 and ebay is a retail venue so you did fine if you like it. I hope they didn't charge extra for shipping though. Enjoy!

Nice and bright and normal retail. It wouldn't make 65 because of the field chatter on the obverse.

It does have nice eye appeal! But I think the grade is probably correct.

Honest 64... I would leave it alone.

I don't see it making 65. You could possibly get it a bean but I think it's graded right.

Alright, thanks for the input. I don't really care either way, since it's just for my personal collection, and I care more about the eye appeal than technical grade... Yeah the scratches on the lower left part of the obv. is probably why it got the grade it did, but still, the strike looks amazing compared to most 64s I've seen before...I guess I'll have a better idea once I actually see it in person...
I wasn't planning on getting any more coins for at least a couple months (actually, I was TRYING not to), but I just couldn't pass this one up...

I agree with the others for it being a MS 64 grade. And agree with OP that it has a really nice strike.
In my experience 1879, 1880 and 1881 "S" mint Morgan's are known to have very nice strikes.
The price is at the higher end of what you might pay. But not by much. I see coins like this selling for $75 quite often.
In fact I bought a 1879 S MS 64 today .. for $75

I always tell myself that same exact thing and just two days ago I dropped $$$ for an 1869 Liberty Seated dime. It'll post by the weekend in the grading section.

Yeah, dsfreeworld, I've just given up on the whole self-control thing :p I'm going to try to sell another 64 though to justify it...
GR58, will you post photos?
