While cleaning the attic today, my sister and I found an old piggie bank that my mother got her when she was born in 1973. We shook it and it didn't sound like there was much inside. We opened the bank and found the following nine pennies: 1957-D 1961-D 1964-D 1965 1969-D 1969-D 1969-D 1970-D 1970-D The 1969 and 1970 coins are rather shiny and all nine coins look in good shape. This piggie bank has been buried in the attic since 1974 or so. Here are some poor photos. I apologize for the blurry middle one.

Go back into the attic and look for an old pocketbook.
Fun finds!

One of the ++ results of cleaning the attic every ten years or so; sometimes you find things you forgot you ever had.
I wish I could go back to a few of my old homes and 'browse' areas of the attics that I 'stored' lots of my valuables. One never knows when he forgets to recover items when he moves out of a house.
PS: My user name comes from a history of attic storage/finds.

How fun to find those cents.
Check the internet for piggy banks. They are collectable. Like old coins, they aren't all worth a lot, but still, it's fun to find out about them.

Show us a photo of the piggy bank, please. From that era it might have some value.

That was a nice trip down memory lane, I'll bet.

Atticguy - you need to start a thread immediately with finds you've made and pics.

I decided to put all nine pennies back into circulation. They were taken to the credit union today (along with a pile of non-interesting coins) and deposited in my account.

I would have kept them for sentimental value.

I'd like to forget most of my childhood, so they held no sentimental value for me. I just like the idea of coins that have been out of service for 40+ years making their way back into the monetary flow.
