I just visited the mint website and had my first look at the new Reagan dollar.

I'm going to have to let this one sink in for a few days.

The Reagan coin portrait is different. Can't say I like it or not

For 2016, they are doing three Presidential $1 Coins:
Richard M. Nixon
Gerald R. Ford
Ronald Reagan

IMHO, it's a horrible portrait. The Nixon and Ford likenesses look pretty good (with what they had to work with), but the Reagan one is a disaster to me.

Never thought I'd say this, but Nixon's coin might be my favorite of the series thus far.

From an artistic standpoint, I think the profile view lends itself MUCH better to the numismatic aesthetic (the bit of jowl reduction here doesn't hurt either). Whereas the majority of the presidential series portraits consist of rather cartoonish-looking 3/4 and frontal perspectives, with every exaggerated wrinkle and crease etched into the dies with laser precision and remarkably unflattering low-relief. I'd say that Nixon dollar is downright...acceptable.

At least now we can say good riddance to this aberration of a series. (no offense to its fans intended)

I hope that's a joke Bertensgrad!

I think Reagan looks like he was just stung in the face by a swarm of bees.

I like the Nixon and Ford dollars. Not too fond of the Reagan coin, being the last Presidential dollar you'd think the engraver would have captured a better likeness.

Definitely not my favorite portrait. It's rather awkward looking.

Agree President Ford looks great, but the other too needs a little improvement.

A real shame since Reagan is one of my favorite Presidents during my life time.

Not sure what's going on at the Mint anymore, all of the portraits they seem to produce look little like the images I'm used to seeing. In fact, they just look weird!
