Cant tell if it is an error or damage. It somewhat looks like a 2 in the picture, but the bottom of the 2 isn't raised at all...more of a dark spot. I think its a 1941 with issues...thoughts?

I agree, looks like a '2' that took some damage in circulation.

nss-52, you make a good point...but I still tend towards 7... the top portion is not shaped correctly for a 2.... how some ever, I wouldn't bet a nickle either way..... (the more I stare at it, the more I think you are right!)

the top portion is not shaped correctly for a 2.... I placed a black line on the 1942 coin photo where the date took a hit on the subject coin. 1. The curve of the 2 is visible on the subject coin. 2. If a 7, how do you explain that the bottom of the 2 is there on the subject coin and in the right place and length? You say the top portion is not shaped correctly for a 2, but it certainly is not shaped correctly for a 7. The 7 is FLAT, but the subject coin is not. I know this is a small matter, but we do seek an accurate response to the original question, right?

It is a two. It is not a seven.
