Do not yet have coin in hand but wondering if this looks genuine. This is far from my wheelhouse so posting on here to see if this even has the potential to be genuine based on how it looks.

Hmmmm....obverse almost looks too nice, even with the damaged 0. George and the outer devices look cruddy enough to be true (based on my older Canadian Cents). I hope it is the real deal though; could be a terrific specimen with that toning.

To me the 0 in the date is the wrong shape and if yours is genuine it would be worth
upwards of AUD $150000 in that grade (AU50) so I would have to consider it a fake

Fortunately, there is a large body of knowledge to be found on the internet concerning the identification of fake 1930 pennies.

Search:
'1930 penny fake identification'.

I am definitely not an expert on these.

If it has an altered date, my guess is that the host coin was dated 1936.

I'm no expert on 1930 pennies, but in all the pictures I've seen, the '0' is symmetrical, as it is on all other Australian coinage. I agree that it's probably a modified 1936 one, because that would explain the unusual shape of the '0'.
