mattreef New Member United Kingdom 1 Posts	Posted 03/02/2016 07:39 am A friend of mine bought this coin in Israel recently and became super excited when he saw that a similar looking coin had sold for a huge price at auction. I'm a bit more skeptical and liable to think that it is a reproduction but I said I would check with the experts (yourselves!)as I have no experience with vintage coins. january1may Pillar of the Community Russian Federation 5172 Posts	Posted 03/02/2016 08:06 am Russian rubles did not have edge inscriptions with weights/fineness (as this one seems to) until 1798, apparently. Actual 1766 rubles had fancy edges with no inscriptions at all. I've recently had to evaluate a supposed 1720s ruble (don't recall the specific date) with an 1810s edge inscription.
