So I was working my shift today at the market, and picked up a new roll of dimes, and out of force of habit I had to check for silver. As soon as I picked up the roll I could tell that the roll end was a silver dime, it had the faded matte look to it. I unwrapped the roll and sure enough there was a white edge to it. I went to check the date of my $1 gain, but it read out 1966. I was sure I misread it, but looking at it now under light, I'm absolutely sure it says 1966. I thought for sure there must be a mistake and I found a circ proof or and odd year for an sms to be silver. But nope, there were no silver dimes made in 1966 as far as I can tell.
Ill have pictures in a few minutes, but I'm not sure if I can grab a weight. For now, does anyone have any idea if there were any silver dime size planchets used by the US during 1966?

Can you weigh the dime? You could be sitting on a rather valuable piece.

Hmm is that from the picture you took or is the coin itself real grainy?

Looks promising. Also, I'm jealous that you drive a Datsun Z. What year? I've been looking to buy one and restore for a while now. My favorite :D

Nope, the grain is from the photo, the actual coin looks like the standard silver dime, but looks a bit glossy under sirect light, I'm kind of leaning towards plated based off of that.
And its a 77 bluesolo, my daily/resto project. Had to slip it in there :P

Very interesting that I just read an article on PCGS by ken potter that said silver dimes were still being struck in '65 and '66 but of course bearing the 1964 date-guess to use up the leftover silver planchets? Then that error is very possible if true-hope it's legit for you good luck!
