The opposite side is a blank field, so it isn't a clash. Die scratch/gouge? I expect someone who knows what they are talking about will come along and give a good opinion :) I am interested to see what it is

It is not a extra column. According to some I have posted on here ,for it to be a extra column it would be vertical just like a normal column.

That is part of what they call 'feeder finger' damage. When the feeder finger removes the coin from the chamber after it has been struck, these fingers can get struck or damaged.

Until they remove the feeder finger and replace it, it makes these lines scratching the surface of the die. (only in the fields though)

They are often polished out, but a few coins will show this damage:

So far I don't think these have a premium. But who knows, in time they maybe listed on a site?

Isn't such damage unique to each coin?

It is a die issue that gets struck on several coins until they fix the issue.

Why of course! If I had been thinking I would have realized that!

I was wondering why anyone would try listing and cataloging Feeder Finger Damage, and now I see why it could be possible. It looks like we are running out of things to classify, so maybe it will eventually happen.

Things like these are always neat to show to new collectors. Save them in a coin tube. I made the mistake of put my one cent errors into 2X2's. Filled about 2 books of these in 3 ring binders. Thinking I had something, but now I realize, I wasted 5 cents per coin storing them that way. (someday I'll have to take them back out again)
