This is my favorite world banknote I own. It is a 1910 100 Mark from Germany and I love the back of it. The steamship is located to the left on the back of the note... It is also quite large. Can you imagine carrying these in your wallet?

A strong geo-political message was being sent there. At the time, the Kaiser had embarked on a massive modernization and expansion of the German Navy, and that line of warships behind Germania is meant to say, "Brittania may not rule the waves forever."

I think those German battlewagons were on their way to Jutland.

Those warships on the German note are pre-dreadnoughts.
In 1906 the Royal Navy intoduced a new type of battleship, the lead of which was HMS Dreadnought. They were vastly superior to what went before in any navy and outclassed old warships. Printing a note a few years later with an obsolete design of ship on it could just be an oversight I supose, but is not an up-to-date advert.

Cool notes.
@CC2012 - It's like traveling to Europe. The larger Pound and Euro notes don't come close to fitting in a(n American) wallet.

Nice little Mississippi 50 cents (four bits) note from a time long past when steamships and paddlewheelers plied the mighty Mississippi River with trade. == ==

Ooops! Forgive the post of the Mississippi 50 cent note; I forgot it was supposed to be a World note with steamship. I think this note with the World War One German cruiser Emden will fit nicely. == ==
