I'm going to flip it if I get it, but the seller seems to be a scammer. I'm more worried about the seller than the coin in the photos.

IMO, coin is genuine F+ to VF-. Most of that green should come off with care and acetone.

The coin looks alright to me, the start of a little verdigris. I am thinking VF-20 maybe VF-25.
That makes it a $500-$600 coin. Many/most examples of this quality and collectability are graded for maximum value. Just remember, if it looks too good to be true .........

Looking at the coin and mint mark the coin looks genuine to me but, should be in a holder to be sure.

Well, I passed. This seller has several counterfeits in his selling history, and has stolen pictures before. I was not 100% that I would actually get a coin, especially since he only accepted personal checks and bank transfers. I may have missed a fantasic deal, but I also may have missed getting scammed. http://www.ebay.fr/itm/monnaie-usa-...refresh=true

Your reasoning may be right, but certainly the coin pictured is genuine, imo.

I strongly felt that the pictured coin was genuine, but I could not say that I would receive the said coin.

A special key date coin that sells here for $500 , coming from Paris for $71 cash, I wouldn't have even looked twice before I passed.

I think you made a wise decision to pass. Seller has this for sale for 12 Euros:

Exactly. The 1871 in his selling history (which received the negative feedback) was a stolen photo from another seller. That true 1871 is still for sale.
