Placed a bid before I went to sleep and a small surprise was waiting for me in the morning http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-Collec...p=true&rt=ncHow did I do? I saw 1921 dimes for 40+ in today's coin show. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

Hope that it is a 1921 in that slot. Not possible to tell from the photos.

A coin in hand is worth 10 on ebay, especially if you have a good loupe in the other hand. Sorry about the negative tone. There are good buys to be had. I would love to see pictures when your coin arrives. Keep at it, I hunk this is the greatest hobby there is.

I agree, hope it's a 1921 in the slot. One would think the seller would mention that in the description, but maybe he missed it. Your gain hopefully. Let us know.

Mentioning a 1916-S but not a 1921 might just be a simple error. Hopefully not only a 1921 but a EF

Maybe he doesn't know about the 1921? You make me worry.

Based on silver value only, you spent a bit more than I would have (but not *that* much more, really). If there is a '21, you did well! Keep us posted.

I'm always wary of albums that don't have close-ups of purported key dates. My wife's grandfather gave her father his entire coin collection a few years back and I was asked to take a look at it. SLQ album - completely filled. My heart nearly stopped! Then I realized it was filled with dateless junk silver. Ditto with the Mercury dimes and Buffalo nickels.

Why wouldn't he fill the 1921 D as well if he knew they are key dates.

I bought a set of Mercury dimes which lacked only the 1916-d. The 21 and 21-D are in fair condition. I like the set but the only coin that realty counts is the 16-D. That I will shop for myself and get a decent one. I do notice many sets on sale these days. Mercury dimes, Washington quarters, Roosevelt silver dimes and all the rest. Most IMO are so-so deals.
