last night as I was getting ready for bed I ask my wife to pick me up ten rolls of pennies for me to go through.

she said ok but what are you hunting.
hen she said theres a box of pennies at my sister inlaws house that need rolling. I ask where they came from?

a friend of the family died about 12 years ago and my father-in-law was the ward of the estate.

went by and picked the full shoebox up this morning , it has mostly wheats some memorial and a small amount of silver.
will start looking through in a few minutes.

Always fun to do that! I get to do that for my pastor in the next few months. He is cleaning up his father's stuff (he was a hoarder) and he has a 6 ft. tall safe filled with coins. O.o good luck to us both!

I did something similar for a friend at work a couple years back. He had several large coffee cans filed with coins, one each for pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters and a fifth with halves and dollars. He was a guy who took his change out at the end of the day and sorted it into cans.

In the penny can there were a few dozen common wheats, the highlight being an early 20's in VF. I also took out a few hundred pre-82 bronzes and a dozen or so 2009's. There was also an impaired proof cent from 2010.

In the Nickel can there were a few 40's and 50's, nothing spectacular. I pulled a couple better grade 60's and 70's as well as a couple "S" mint from the late 60's and early 70's.

In the dimes the best thing was a 64 in decent shape and a Canadian from around 2010.

Quarters provided a few 76's but nothing else interesting.

There were a few dozen assorted Kennedy halves, nothing interesting, no silver and no recent NIFC's. There were a few well worn coins that may have been from a casino.

In the same can as the halves were a few Ike's and a couple dozen SBA's and a common Loonie. The rest were assorted golden dollars, none of which were of any real interest. He said the Ikes came from someone who needed bills for a vending machine and the halves came from Post Office purchases. He also said he frequented a vending machine that sold bottled water and accepted $5 and $10 bills and paid back change in small dollar coins.

I took what I wanted, cashed in the rest and gave him the payout as well as reimbursement from the ones I kept. I asked if he wanted any of the ones I saved and he just requested an Ike for a pocket piece. He used the cash to buy a new TV...

Rest in Peace

Fun finds. One thing you learn after sorting through lots of truly original hoards is that rare dates and mints really are rare. I always hope for the best but the rare ones are always tough to snag.

just more of the above, makes me wonder why all the 1982's
and the wheats , all from the 50's with only one 1955 D
found less than 10 wheats from the 40's

Finds like this are always FUN.

The wife asked me what to do with my coin collection.

I told her to get aholdt of Bobby. And then I told her where several pawn shops were, and which ones not to use.

I've got boxes of coins in 2x2's and boxes of mint coins.

and I've got hundreds in Canadian currency and coins. Even more for the entire empire.

And Belgian silver guldens. JIM. Military script. A complete Jefferson nickel collection up to......

How do I explain she should keep the junk silver for a rainy day? The dear sisters can fight over it, in a good world.

Yup, and we may never eat any of the food storage. It can be donated.

I've got amps and tuners and turntables and tape players and recorders. And about 10,000 LP's promised to the eldest daughter. Let me explain about getting even another time.
