I have a couple of questions about the US Mint. Apologies in advance if these have been answered elsewhere, but I didn't see them in the archives.

First, I noticed the 1/10 American Gold Eagle is on backorder. Does this really mean backorder? Or is the AGE 1/10 disappearing like a ghost?

Also, I was also curious about the Kennedy halves, rolled, for sale at the Mint. What are collectors doing with these rolls? Collecting? Breaking them up and selling? Looking for BUs? Sending off to graders?

Thanks.

I cannot comment on the 1/10 Eagles, but here in Canada the mint sells rolls of 50 cent pieces, and all of the above applies:

Of course, here this is the only way to get them.

The 1/10 gold will be back. They are made in batches, the mint estimates demand and mints more. If it was October and back ordered, you probably wouldn't see it again. But not in April, the mint is a "for profit" entity.

The Kennedys, it depends on what you collect them for. Many people have running albums and running collections. Dealers buy them to sell one at a time or to send the best out for grading. Some people buy the rolls, keep a couple of the best P's and D's for themselves and sell the rest to friends for their collections.

Since you can't just get one from circulation you need to either buy rolls a=or break up a mint set.

OldWest, the least expensive way to get quality coins is to buy mint sets. The coins tend to be better than the best you'll find in the rolls from the mint.

Some of them do end up in circulation from (among other reasons) people buying bags/rolls of them, cherry picking the best, and dumping the rest at their banks.
