I saw this high grade coin on ebay, but in looking at it more closely, it appears that someone had some fun re-engraving the shield on the eagle's breast in a very crude manner.

I haven't seen this done before.

No shortage of idiots. They crudely "tooled", and ruined, a very nice coin!

This is what "tooled" means. Normally some idiot takes a scalpel to bands on a Mercury dime or bell lines on a Franklin. Never seen this before, though.

Seller hoping obverse steals all the attention. More than likely the reverse would only get a passing glance. I didn't even notice the reverse until I looked a second time.

If you look above the legend on the reverse, there are file marks before and above the word "STATES." This coin may have had problems before the second guy went to work on it.
