*** Edited by Staff to remove YELLING. All capital letters is the internet version of yelling. Please don't do it in titles or posts. ***My grandpa just gave me his entire coin collection a couple months ago. I have spent the last couple months creating an inventory and reading the the Red Book. One thing of interest is that I have 3 of the 1997 BOTANIC GARDENS COIN & CURRENCY sets. From what I've read, they're fairly rare and in high demand. I tried selling them on ebay, but didn't get the $150 I was asking for. My question to you relates to the toning on the back of the nickel. I assume the more browning/toning, the less interested people may be? I assume toning is bad? Please excuse my ignorance. All I know about coin collecting I've learned in the past 2 months. :) I have uploaded the obverse and reverse pics. However, I have a LOT to learn about coin photography still. Any advice/information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Nice to have three of these sets It is very common for the Jefferson nickels to tone when they are left in the 1997 and the 1994 commemorative OGP. The 1997 P matte proof Jefferson nickel is one of the keys to the series. As for toning, some collectors like, some don't. Collectors that are familiar with this set, understand it. Did you check sold auctions on ebay to see what other sets are selling for?

Thank you for the feedback. Yes, I did check ebay sold auctions before listing it. When I checked again last night, the ones I saw go for $150 had almost zero discoloration on the back. I will look more before relisting it to see an average selling price of ones with the same discoloration as mine. Thanks again!

Make sure you let us know when you are going to list one or more of these. There are probably multiple members here who would like to pick up one of these (myself included) with toning or without. Although you haven't been a member long enough to sell directly to other members through CCF, we like to buy/sell with other members on the bay, so at least let us know your ebay handle. So, , You're sure to learn a lot about your newly acquired collection by hanging out around here.

Fortunately the toning looks nice and even. If it was blotchy or heavy it could have a serious downward effect on the value. personally I think the toning on that one looks nice.

Thank you all for the feedback. I've been extremely impressed with how knowledgeable and helpful everyone here has been. I feel like part of the family, and I've only been on here a couple months. I have a LOT of work ahead of me, as I continue to inventory everything in the collection.
One question though. I've been working on setting up a poor-man's photo lab at home. With the setup we have, the pictures on my computer look decent (at least better than what ends up getting uploaded). Do any of you have any suggestions on how to upload higher quality pics? When I read through other posts, the uploaded pics look amazing! However, when I upload mine, I first have to use the image optimizer to reduce it to under 200KB. When I do that, the quality looks poor compared to the original pic. Any suggestions? Or should I post this in a separate thread?

I did finally reslist these sets on ebay. I found several examples of others that sold for what I'm asking. *** Removed by the Staff *** Is there a better, more standard way of communicating ebay listings on here? Is there a specific forum I should be posting in? I won't spam everyone with every item I'm listing, but if there may be an interest in some of my more unique/valuable items, what's the best way to communicate that within the guidelines of this group/forum? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for the clarification. Sorry to not be following standard forum protocol. I'm excited to be part of this community, and plan to be involved for many months/years.

You could set up a free account with a photo hosting site and upload larger higher quality images there then post them here using links to your images. That gets around the 200K limit.

That's brilliant. I hadn't thought about that. So if I include a link in my posts here, will it actually display the images? Or will it simply display a link that you'd have to click on? Again, I only ask because I have seen some VERY clear/detailed pictures on this site, and I would have to expect that they're bigger than 200K.

You have to put the image tags around the link to the image.

I'm working on creating my inventory/spreadsheet. Once I get a decent list, I'll create a thread of my inventory and post a link to it.
In the meantime, I built my own DIY light box and took a new picture of the back of the Jefferson matte nickel. Hoping to link it correctly here...
