I bet that Joan would like to have her coin back... J/K
Welcome to the forum, you coin has the intrinsic value of 80% silver content, approx. $15 at the moment. Your coin has damage and therefore, no one will buy it but for the price of silver

the coin looks high F or low VF. with the graffiti I think you could sell it to someone looking for a hole filler for anywhere from $100-$150.
Feel free to call me Will.

even with the damage the coin would certainly fetch close to 200$, maybe more..undamaged that coin is worth close to 325$..

Canadian coin news "Trends" for last month lists the 1947 Maple Leaf as $165 in F and $225 in VF, Canadian $ and undamaged of course. It is still a scarce mintage, not much more than the 1948, so it would still trade for well over bullion even with the graffiti. How much depends on the dealer, perhaps 1/3 to 1/2 trends.

I've never seen a coin like that. Even with the damage it is still a great find.

What a shame to do that to a coin, write on a piece of paper or something.

Looks like it also has 1955 scratched on it. I agree it's worth more than bullion, but not much.

I would say VF-20 around $225 trends if there was no damage. My personal opinion is that this type of damage, known as "graffiti"completely destroys the value of the coin, and reduces it to melt value. This is due to the intentional damaging of a coin for personalization/keepsake purposes.
Whereas other types of damage such as random scratches, dents, etc. are usually unintentional and don't detract as much from the coin, reducing the price by anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 depending on the severity.
