About as thin as a dime and no Ridge. New to this and couldn't find one just like it. How did this happen?

That's kinda what I thought but if it was sanded it would not be flat across the face. The coin is the same thickness everywhere.

Ha Ha -- that was fast! Now I want you to weigh it and get a micrometer measurement. It seems odd -- the edges slope and yet the entire quarter is thin. I would think that if it was sanded/ground down to be that thin that the devices would be barely visible. Not an expert -- I think we can be certain it didn't happen at the mint, though. The edges have clearly been damaged and that didn't happen at the mint.

[W] The rim is beefed up by the setup process when the blank is turned into a planchet. Also the strike adds the rim to the faces of the coin. The coin is sanded down more on the edges than in the center of the coin. PSD

Nice example of what an orbital sander with a fine grit of wet sand paper or a rotary buffer and rubbing / buffing compound can do.
The rim is the highest point on the coin so it will be the first to go. The field will follow if the procedure had continued longer. Thanks, Doug.
