This may have been covered before, I don't know.
On the consignment forms there is a tier of submissions based on values and turnaround times. Basically if you want it done faster you have to pay more for the service PCGS list their turnaround times and I know that these are just "Estimates" But as we have to pay more to get things done faster why isn't there a provision for a "Discount" if the submission takes longer than the listed turnaround times.

Like you said, turn around times are estimates. Quite often they are slowed down by big shows which result in: -- many employees being at the show hence fewer at "home" to do the work, and -- more coins in the higher categories which push the lesser categories further out. And at this time of the year vacations start to impact who're at the "shop".

It's not so bad having to wait a couple of extra days but when this turns to weeks it becomes quite disappointing. I most certainly wouldn't get this sort of thing if I dropped my car off for repairs

The first and up to date last time I submitted coins to PCGS (at a coin show in Berlin) it took less than the estimated turnaround time to get my coins back graded. Roughly 3,5 weeks I had to wait for my gems to arrive.

I wonder if US members can submit to the PCGS Paris Grading week, and get them done in a week.
I'm a gold member and the voucher for 4 free gradings are valid for that grading week (I emailed and asked), even though it says it's for the economy tier.
So you basically get 4 free economy gradings done in a week. Maybe worth a try, but might be a hassle to fill out the paper work for customs and stuff

My World-Economy submission was received 4/5/2016, That's 36 working days and still no grades yet. Even with the new estimate of 26 working days for this grading tier the submission is already 10 days late

A bit off topic but...
Trout, didn't you get someone else's PCGS submission delivered back to you accidentally last year? How did that turn out? Did PCGS or the guy who owned the coins give you anything for the trouble? Wasn't he a big time coin dealer and it was a 5 figure submission or something like that. I wonder if there are more mistakes made the higher the tier

I wonder if there are more mistakes made the higher the tier Yes PCGS did send me someone else's coins Which I handed back to Andrew Crellin Who is a well known and respected Dealer and also the ANDA treasurer. As a reward he gave me a 1798 Guinea graded by PCGS at AU58 for my Proclamation set. I also bought a couple of Sovereigns from him whilst I was there. The coins that were sent to me by mistake were superb specimens of early Australia pre decimal coins and it would have been an expensive and very difficult task for Andrew to replace them. Andrew is a really nice Bloke and he puts a lot of effort and time into promoting numismatics in Aus and I am glad I was able to help.

I would think that these "2016-W 10C Mercury dime Gold 100th Anniversary First Strike Label (Special Strike)" and the plethora of ASE's being graded are a large part of the reason why my submissions have been bogged down lately

Trout, if your coins submitted were world coins, I wouldn't think the gold Mercury and ASEs are causing most of the delay, except maybe at the arrival room. I'm pretty sure they would be sent to different departments to be graded, so the modern US coins should affect your submission in the grading stage.

I have just noticed that the turnaround estimate for World economy has been increased to 41 working days, the same amount of time my submission has been there :) Surely it shouldn't be too much longer. I noticed the same sort of delays when the Gold Kennedy was released.

Once it gets to the grading rooms, the process should be pretty quick, I'm assuming, depending how many they have to grade. Most likely, the delay is in the receiving room, with all the moderns coming in and clogging them up.
(Also, a note about my previous post, the last "should" was meant to be "shouldn't.")

Where do the turnaround numbers come from ? Surely its possible to provide an accurate number based on date received and the date sent out. Rather than someone just comes up with a number off the top of their head.

20-30 days now is 2 months MINIMUM for PCGS..at least on my world coin order...IF PCGS wanted to REALLY be top dog for #1 customer service, they would Man Up, and, when goofs made(wrong label, etc..), they would make submission charges FREE. I don't see PCGS changing anything, until the old guard there dies off or retires...their business model is so outdated and unfriendly, it staggers the mind.

After 50 working days or 2 1/2 Months the submission has finally been graded, However the 4 Captain Cook Specimen coins in that submission have been graded as MS instead of SP
