My name is Ed.
I have been collecting since I was 8. I mowed lawns all summer at 11 to buy a 1914d Fine Lincoln. Not too long after I lost interest It wasn't until 1999 when I inherited my dad's collection that I regained interest. My primary focus at that time was silver and filling holes mostly G-F Barbers, Indians, Seated dimes and the like. In 2008 I sold many of the key dates, gold, silver and bulky mint issue sets to buy a house. A decision I was afraid I would regret but haven't yet. This along with the peak in precious metals created another period of disinterest. About a year ago my wife started taking a real interest in collecting after photographing some of our collection to sell on ebay (to buy silver). That is about the same time that I realized that there was a lot of confusion over the 1922 Lincolns. Being the type that loves finding great deals, my friends say I'm "cheap" I call it resourceful. I found that with my knowledge and my wife's super accurate listings and photos we could make enough to afford keeping the things we really like. I came across a partial 1st book of woodgrain Lincolns in XF-UNC that I really changed my view on the hobby. After 15 years of looking for a 1892-o half in vg-f for the right price to fill that last hole, I just don't care any more. My dad had about 1/2 of the 3 denominations and now I'm down to 6 dimes 3 quarters and the 92-o. Ag-F they pretty much all look the same except the date. I will have her sell them all and buy one cameo proof. ebay is like a treasure hunt to me watching her sell them for huge profit is half the fun for me. I can not afford to buy and hold all the coins I like so I am starting a digital collection of the coins I have had. It will be much easier to show off, the collection will be way bigger than if I have to keep spending, and I have been working my way up to stuff I could have never owned otherwise. Which is vital due to my complete change in taste. I now care way more about the look than the date.
Thank You for allowing me the privilege of being a member of your "Family"

Welcome!

I'm not sure I understand the 'digital' collection. It can't really be your collection if they're not in your possession. If thats the case, we all have darn near every coin ever in our collections. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it makes you happy, I'm just not sure thats an honest 'collection'.

I like the idea of a digital collection (this sounds like a good idea for a new thread topic) and I know there are plenty of collectors that do just this. Of course I feel it has to be your own photographs to be considered part of "your" collection - there does exist a copyright with images.

Just to be clear about a digital collection. My intention is to have my wife photograph the coins I own, even if for a short time. For example, 1883 PCGS PR64BN purple Indian and raw 1880 toned proof we got this week cost at least our 2 month coin budget. I will sell them at a profit and keep the images in a "collection" and buy 2 more nicer ones. Over and over again. I would be happy to discuss this on another thread if someone starts one.

I can relate to this 100%.
I call myself a coin selector. That is a seller/collector. I cannot afford to collect. I can instead "own" many, many coins for a week or two two, enjoy the history and move on. All this while actually making money instead of spending it. I am not saying that this works for everyone, but for me it has been, and hopefully will continue to be a great hobby.
Feel free to use my newly coined term, it is not copyrighted.

edthelorax has made an interesting post that references 'helicopter money'.

This is the methodology used by socialists today to fund their ubertheories. We have bubble pops because that is the way banksters have found to get 'helicoptered' by the socialist running the Federal Reserve.

Last post on page 284. Very astute.
