I found this site a few weeks ago while looking something up, which I don't recall what it was.

I've been collecting coins my whole life but have never paid more than face. I remember being a little girl in the late sixties looking at coins with my grandfather. My parents were also collectors.

A few weeks ago my grandson turned 9. For his birthday I picked up a roll of halves. His response, after thank you of course, "Grammy, I'm not addicted to coins like you are". Unfortunately there was nothing good in the roll. I want to get my grandchildren into this great hobby and have now decided to get books together for both my grandchildren which has only fueled my obsession further.

I have already learned a lot here and look forward to learning more.

I gave my daughter a some bicentennial halves to put under his pillow when he lost a tooth. After all, kids do like big coins. He was thrilled with them. Hence the reason I got him the roll. Haven't had the opportunity to introduce my granddaughter to it yet. Next time either one loses a tooth, I'm reaching into my pile of Ikes, Now that's "big" money.
Rest in Peace

Sharing the hobby is great. Even if the kids don't have a passion for it, they will appreciate what they have when they're older (I hope).

Thank you all for the warm welcomes.

Can anyone point me in the direction of cleaning ink off clad halves? I haven't seen anything specific to Kennedy halves and don't want to ruin the coins. Went through a box of coins the other day that was covered in ink. I think I got part of someone's collection. Some of the coins are gorgeous but about half have ink on the ridges. If these coins don't get the kids interested in collecting I don't know what will.

100% acetone will remove the ink but may leave a witness mark where the ink was. It shouldn't affect the patina. Try it on one and check the results. Good luck.
