Thanks for the article. A desert does seem like a strange place to find a wreck, but I guess it does make sense.

There's supposed to be something on Mount Ararat, though that's not a desert.

Ok, that settles it. The trip to Namibia is booked, will be there in November, so if you want any treasure, you now know the deadline.

By the way, for those wondering about a ship in the desert: the Namibian coast line is a sandy one that has a lot of influence by weather (storms from the desert, currents at sea, etc). It happens more than often that the cost line moves a few kilometer due to this and changes very often. Namibia has (almost) no coast control to keep the coast line as it is, like for example Netherlands has, due to so little people actually living there (I believe there's about 2 people per square mile or so in Namibia). It's thus completely 'normal' to find shipwrecks in the desert. Most likely the ships got stranded, then caught by bad weather and that way got 'eaten' by the desert.

"the ship was discovered in the pit of a drained lagoon", so the headline "in Namibian desert" is somewhat misleading, but perhaps technically accurate.
