Clearly I'm missing something. Where's the unicorn? It just looks like a garden variety Roosevelt dime to me. Is this one of those "if it wiz a snake it woulda bit me" things?

Is it raised or sunk in?

I think there's a fragment sticking out of his nose (Roosevelt's, not the OP). A closer photograph would confirm this, I'm guessing?

A Cud would have to be on the rim. Looks like the nose took a hit to me. Just another guess.

You have the right idea, but the wrong terms. A Cud could be on the outside edge of the die. That would fall just before the rim. If it would on the outside rim of the Cud, it would be a rim Cud.

A Cud is caused by this:

Note how the die has an edge missing some metal on the die. This creates a raised area before and over the collar:

This will leave weakness on the reverse side of the coin struck.

An area of a coin that is incuse, can show a raised area from metal movement that makes push during a glancing blow. We see this sometimes from the reeds on the edge of the coin striking the surface of the coin. So I would need to see a better image, backed away a bit to see what is going on in that area. It is not a place that a die crack would start. They tend to start of the bases of devices. (sometimes on the tops of the devices deep inside. But usually on partial on the deeper devices and the fields at the same time.
