Where did this clash come from, because I know it's not from its own reverse. The clash starts at the rim next to the last S of States. Then it goes through liberty's head, through the stick and arm, and then curls and goes through the legs and stops at the 7. Is this a Variety? Any help is greatly appreciated.

What I see looks like a scratch. Is it raised? It could be a die crack.

It's raised. And it looks like a clash. Is there any varieties that involve a clash on the Seated dimes.

The only clashes reported on 1876 dimes are the typical obverse/reverse ones.

Here is the Seated dime attribution site http://www.seateddimevarieties.com/...6varpage.htm

It helps to post full obverse and reverse pictures if you are seeking help on trying to pin down a variety attribution.

You are right, I looked at an overlay and it is a clash with the reverse. Thanks for all the help.

A clash wouldn't go across the devices like that.

A clash would not get into the deepest recesses of the die without totally destroying the fields.

Maybe a short explanation of clashed dies will help out here.

A clashed die occurs when the obverse and reverse dies are brought together (only one is moving) without a coin between them. This will result in some of the detail from one or both dies being imparted on the opposite die. Any coins that are struck room that damaged die will have traces of that detail. The die has the opposite features of the coin to be. So any place where the coins design is raised, the die is recessed out incused. The higher the device, the deeper the incuse. When the two dies come together the deepest recesses are "shielded" by the flat part.

I hope that clears things up a bit.

If it's incuse on the coin, a scratch. If it's raised, probably a die crack.
