A clash would not get into the deepest recesses of the die without totally destroying the fields.
Maybe a short explanation of clashed dies will help out here.
A clashed die occurs when the obverse and reverse dies are brought together (only one is moving) without a coin between them. This will result in some of the detail from one or both dies being imparted on the opposite die. Any coins that are struck room that damaged die will have traces of that detail. The die has the opposite features of the coin to be. So any place where the coins design is raised, the die is recessed out incused. The higher the device, the deeper the incuse. When the two dies come together the deepest recesses are "shielded" by the flat part.
