Got this last night along with a bunch of LWCs.

The lettering on the obverse looks like it wore unevenly. My hunch is that this was Struck Through Grease but I could be wrong.

Also the reverse has some sort of glue all over it like it was glued down to something. Best way to remove this? Will acetone discolor the surface of copper?

Struck through or just wear?

Thanks...Mont.

Couldn't be wear, because it is not present elsewhere, so Struck Through Grease, and a nice one too, sad that there is glue on the reverse.

Yep, acetone will work as others have mentioned. It will leave the surface of the coin alone, but it might remove some of the patina if it sits in there more than a day or so.

That's not only contradicting it's also half correct. Acetone will not remove the patina.

Dropped coin in some acetone this afternoon. Hopefully will come out ok. Never tried to remove glue from coin before.

How long should I leave it in the acetone?

It shouldn't take long before the acetone takes affect on the glue. Since the coin isn't in the best shape, you may be able to wipe the glue off after a short soak. Any residue left behind will require more time in the bath. This should be a good learning experience for you and try to remember that problem coins will always be problems coins. Acetone won't work miracles.

Posting coin for grading as a Greaser in grading section. You can see how reverse faired there after acetone bath. If you're interested.
