but do they contain PVC ?

As far as I know if it's safe for food it should be safe for coins, I don't believe that PVC is used in food containers.

Makes sense with regards to storage, but this piece of wisdom isn't applicable everywhere. I guarantee silver makes a terrible spaghetti sauce.

I got another one.

This time I was shopping the garage sales and found a box of pesos. I paid the asking price but got a pair of pruning shears thrown in.

The problem was the lid had a liner that interfered whenever I tried to put it on the box.

So I turned it upside down and found it fit my 2x2s very nicely.

When I went to put the bottom on the top, I discovered something.

It does smell better than the margarine box.

Any plastics used to store food in should be safe to store coins in, at least from a contamination perspective. There are rules about this. "Food grade plastic" is the term.

I have been using a craft box--the kind with compartments--to sort my coin jar coins by date and type. I don't plan to use it for long term storage, but what does it mean if it has PP under the recycle triangle? I was looking at one of these for longer term storage and I'm pretty sure the removable boxes are the same kind of plastic. http://www.target.com/p/creative-op...gclsrc=aw.ds

Also, some of my uncle's Buffalo nickels have been kept in a ziplock Baggie for decades, and some of his other coins are in a plastic cigarette case. It probably doesn't matter much, as neither set of coins is particularly exciting--only a few of the buffs still have dates, and the cig case coins are all pretty much junk silver,
