Hi, everyone.
I found this 1979 P quarter. The finish looks black to me but it still has some shimmer. It also feels slightly heavier than other quarters and sounded a little different, which is why it caught my attention (going to buy a scale in the next couple of days). I am new at this so I am not sure if this is anything. Let me know if I should post better pics.

That looks more like an improperly annealed planchet, than any Washington on the Bay.
Even the NGC piece @ 338.
I like the fact it's corrosion free.

To me it looks like a quarter that has toned after leaving the mint.

I don't think it has much value

I thought it might have been burried but there is no other damage or corosion or damage, and like I said, it still glimmers in the light...

It is hard to tell from the pics if this is what is called a sintered coin, "Black Beauty," or improperly annealed. I have one I got from a bank roll in 2015 and it has original mint luster on it, its just black in color.

Looks like it's been heated to attempt to tone it. I put a quarter on the stove for the heck of it and repeated it over and over. The finished result looks quite similar to that.
