Treasurer of the United States Rosa "Rosie" Gumataotao Rios is set to retire from the position on Friday, July 8.

Consequently, we may see Series 2013A Federal Reserve Notes on the horizon, as a suffix is added when the Treasurer changes. The series year itself changes when the Treasury Secretary changes.

Then again, given that it's an election year, we may not see a change to the series or suffix until next year. For that matter, the Treasurer position may not even be filled until then either.

Signs one side of the Federal Reserve notes. That's all.

I mean, surely this can't be a prestige minority appointment slot?

That's not all she does. She also goes to the World's Fair of Money and sits and signs those notes again -- with a pen -- right there in person.

As of 2002 the Office of the Treasurer underwent a major reorganization. The Treasurer now advises the Director of the Mint, the Director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Deputy Secretary and the Secretary of the Treasury on matters relating to coinage, currency and the production of other instruments by the United States.[1]

The Treasurer's signature, as well as the Treasury Secretary's, appear on Federal Reserve Notes.

My favorite, by far, signature by a Treasurer is Francis E. Spinner

Apparently the importance of this office has deteriorated to the point of nothing more than ceremony and political huckstering.

Look back at the history of the Treasurer's office since 1985 and tell me what your think.

I had to look that one up (because I don't have anything that old in my collection). That IS quite the signature. Very impressive.

My favorite signatures are the combination of Julian (Treas.) and Morgenthau (Sec.).

Oh, and personally I would expect nothing to change until after the election. If we can't even get a new Supreme Court Justice considered, this had BETTER wait.

Here is an article from yesterday on this. Rios' resignation was effective July 8th, 2016.

Great thread. All it needs now is a scan of her autograph on a $20 star note.

Nice 20 star! I do have to say those courtesy autograph notes are really fun.
