Hello all, as I know there a lot of fakes of these about I thought I would ask to see what people's opinions are on this coin I own. To me, everything points to it being real except the weight is a bit off, 24.2 grams!
It is a Hu-Peh Province, 7 Mace and 2 Candareens Silver Dragon. The text seems the right size, the right distance from the outer circumference, and I have had a Chinese friend semi-translate the reverse and it reads Hu-Bei, with Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty.
I have tested it with a magnet, it is not magnetic at all. It measures exactly 39mm in diameter with vernier calipers and 2.6mm in width.
It came to me from an auction with an original price tag of £200 which looked like an old tag, and I got it for way less.
So just interested in people's thoughts, as I can't find any coins with the same reverse?
Many thanks in advance, Toby.
