I'm considering purchasing this note at a local auction tonight. What would be your max price? I do not have better photos, nor will I be able to obtain them. I know the inscription on the back isn't really legible in this photo.

A T-36 is an affordable note, especially in this condition. Is there any way for you to let us know what the inscription on the back says ? This may or may not add to the value. Typically sells for $25-$40.

I got it. I paid $50, which is on the high side based on recent ebay sales, but the condition is pretty good and I was really intrigued by the inscription. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...045573.m1684

The inscription appears to be an obituary for a lady named Mary Stevens. I tried my best to transcribe the text, but I know I have about half of it wrong. I also think the writer probably meant to use "1817" and "1861" as the dates...but even using the 1861 date, Mary's date of death would pre-date the note. If anybody else wants to take a stab at transcribing this, I'd love the input!

Here's what I came up with...

Here is committed to the Earth the mortal pass of Mrs. Mary Stevens the wife of Dr. Rand Stevens she was born Oct. 25th 1717 live in sweetest conjugal love with her friend and lender husband but lived him 9 months and him went joyfully after Jan. 12th 1761 expressing her great desire to go home to her father's house Christian graces were exemplary in a kind lender week and quiet efficient and a very unoffensive life she died in the 44th year of her age

What little I can make out so far in the inscription is very touching.
