Slowly working on my Morgan set. Coin looks pretty good in hand.

Is that a large retained lamination in front field and a detached lamination at the hair/ear area or is that just PMD or the photo?

I thought it was from a cracked die. I'll look again, maybe get a few better pictures posted.

I'm thinking the vertical is a crack and the horizontal is a stain or something. If it is one continuous looking crack, with that shape I'd think possible lamination. What about the hair curl area above the ear? Is that just a hit?

If that's a hit above the ear it looks deep. Is this off your roll coinut? Did you see any off the same roll?

It looks like a VAM-37A2.

Good call Dave700x! That doesn't account for the apparent gouge by the ear, though. Is it indeed a hit or just shadow

A strike or planchet issue, assuming it's not PMD, wouldn't be explained by it's VAM in most cases

Some close-up pics of that lamination (?) area would be great.

That is a interesting coin, I too would like to see some more detail pictures.

I will post some close ups. I did not cherry pick this from my roll, bought it as is. After I post I'll appreciate all feedback.
